Pre-Clinical Studies
The pre-clinical studies of ZS-9 confirm the technology’s robust potassium absorption capacity and excellent safety profile. In an in vitro study, ZS-9 demonstrated better potassium absorption capacity vs. existing therapies. Animal studies also clearly demonstrated that ZS-9 effectively removes clinically significant amounts of potassium and urine urea nitrogen. In addition, safety trials in two different species showed that the product was well tolerated at maximum doses. No evidence of lesions or other toxicities were observed in these trials. Ongoing efficacy and safety trials will further establish ZS-9 as a significant medical breakthrough in the treatment of acute and chronic hyperkalemia.
