Alvaro F. Guillem, Ph.D. – President and Chief Executive Officer: Dr. Guillem is a founder and President and Chief Executive Officer of ZS Pharma. Over the last 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Guillem has managed Quality, Regulatory Compliance, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Control and Development laboratories, as well as all operational activities in many pharmaceutical plants. He has held managerial and senior positions in major pharmaceutical companies such as Wyeth and Boeringher Ingelheim, as well as startup companies such as Medeva Americas and Adams Laboratories, bringing many new products to the market. In his most recent roles, Dr. Guillem held the positions of Vice President of Scientific and Quality Affairs for Ash Access Technology, Inc., Vice President of Quality and Pharmaceutical Science at BoneCare/Genzyme and Vice President and General Manager at Adams Laboratories. Donald Jeffrey Keyser, R.Ph., J.D., Ph.D. – Chief Operating Officer: Jeffrey Keyser is a founder and Chief Operating Officer of ZS Pharma. Over the last 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Keyser has been involved with regulatory and medical affairs, and regulatory product development activities. He is the former Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Chief Compliance Officer at Encysive Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Vice President, Development and Regulatory Affairs at Adams Respiratory Therapeutics, Inc., and Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Technical Affairs at Medeva Americas. He has also held senior management positions at Marion Merrell Dow, Marion Laboratories and Abbott Laboratories over his career. He has directed efforts to prepare and secure approvals of numerous INDs and NDAs/MAAs both in the US, Canada, Australia and in Europe. Dr. Keyser has a BS in Pharmacy and a J.D. from Creighton University, a Masters in Public Affairs and Administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and a Ph.D. in Public Affairs and Political Economy from the Robert B. Truitt – Chairman of the Board: Mr. Truitt is a founder of ZS Pharma and serves as the Company’s Chairman of the Board. He is co-founder and holds the title of President and CEO of each of Ash Access Technology, Inc. and HemoCleanse, Inc.. He was co-founder and President and CEO of Renal Solutions, Inc. prior to its spin-off from HemoCleanse in 2000. Mr. Truitt and Dr. Ash have been working together in various medical device and pharmaceutical product development endeavors since 1983. He was General Partner of Indiana Growth Fund I, Ltd., the initial funding source for the HemoCleanse family of companies. Mr. Truitt was the former President and CEO of the Rostone Division of the Allen Bradley Company, a maker of custom-engineered plastic component parts for various industries. He received his MS and BS degrees in Engineering Science from Purdue University and an MBA from Harvard University. Miles B. Davis, Ph.D., R.Ph. – Dr. Davis is President and CEO of Sovereign Pharmaceuticals, LLC, a contract manufacturer of oral dose pharmaceutical products. His experience over 27 years in the pharmaceutical industry has emphasized technical operations and product quality at large and small firms including Schering-Plough Corporation, Lederle Laboratories, Warner-Lambert, Duramed Pharmaceuticals and Roxane Laboratories. During his career, Dr. Davis has held various management positions spanning multiple stages of product life cycle including formulation development, package development, scale-up, process validation and manufacturing. He has also led numerous project teams responsible for facility installation and start-up, coordinated product transfers and launches, and overseen facility design and equipment selection including development, manufacturing, packaging and potent compound facilities. Dr. Davis holds a B.S. in Pharmacy and a Ph.D. in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy, both from Purdue University.
Marc Ostro, Ph.D. – Dr. Ostro, a General Partner with Devon Park Bioventures, brings considerable experience as a researcher, entrepreneur, company executive, Wall Street analyst and financial advisor. Dr. Ostro’s career began as an Assistant Professor of Immunology and Molecular Biology at the University of Illinois Medical School following which he co-founded The Liposome Company in 1981, which was later sold for over $700 million. While there, he played a key role in raising approximately $200 million in equity financing for the Company in three private and five public offerings and also helped orchestrate four spin-offs and joint ventures, while negotiating numerous licensing agreements with pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Ostro gained expertise in the clinical and regulatory aspects of drug development as he led a research team that successfully developed two cancer-related products that are now on the market. Dr.Ostro later founded the Journal of Liposome Research and has authored and edited journal articles, books and served on numerous scientific advisory boards. Since 1993,Dr. Ostro has engaged his expertise on Wall Street, serving as a Senior Equity Analyst with Mabon Securities, Managing Director for UBS Securities, Senior Vice President for Ross Financial Corporation, and Senior Managing Director and Head of KPMG's Life Science Group. Dr. Ostro holds a B.S. in Biology from Lehigh University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Syracuse University. Dr. Ostro holds twelve patents in the United States, Europe and Japan and has served on the Board of Directors of eleven biotechnology companies.
